For the total population of a large southern city, mean family income is $34,000, with a standard deviation (for the population) of $5,000. Imagine that you are taking subsample of 200 city residents. What is the Z score for $33,000?

Answer:

Z= -2.83

Explanation:

The formula for calculating z-score is :

Z= \frac{\bar{x}-\mu}{(\sigma)/(√(n)) }

\bar{x} = 33000

μ = 34000

n = 200

σ = 5000

Putting all values,

Z= (33000-34000)/((5000)/(√(200)) )

⇒ Z= -2.83
