The Boxer Rebellion was put down by a coalition of nations called the Eight-Nation Alliance. The Eight-Nation Alliance was set up specifically to hamper the Boxer Rebellion and consisted of the countries of: Japan, the United States, France, Great Britain, Russia, Germany, Italy and Austria-Hungary. It saw itself as being a humanitarian intervention.
