Phoenicians provided a link between many places, most importantly Africa and Europe. This led to a cultural diffusion of many concepts, the most important of which is probably the alphabet: the Greeks adapted their alphabet from the Phoenicians, who in turn adapted it from the Egyptian hieroglyphs.
