We respire and take oxygen that is involved in the energy production. There are various cycles that are involved in the energy production. The oxygen is an important component in cellular respiration because the end product of cellular respiration is ATP production. The glucose molecule is broken down in the pressence of oxygen and energy is produced along with the carbon dioxide as byproduct. For one molecule of glucose 36 molecules of ATP is produced.
