How much pressure is exerted when air is being compressed?

The more pressure you exert, the more the air is compressed.

Maybe this is what they're looking for:

-- Normal atmospheric pressure at sea level is about
14.7 pounds per square inch (101 kilopascals).

-- Any pressure greater than that, when applied to a sample of air
in a container, will compress the sample to greater density than
normal sea level atmosphere.
