Which sentences contain an adverb clause?

Darla set up a studio because she enjoyed painting.
As Aaron was having a midnight snack, he heard a loud noise coming from the basement.

The first one!

an adverb clause describes how something is done, where, or why.

and here

"because she enjoyed painting"

describes why she did what she did - the why!

An adverb clause is a dependent clause (subordinate conjunction+subject+verb) that functions as an adverb, answering how?, when?, where? or why?

Within this list, there are two sentences that contain an adverb clause:

  • Darla set up a studio because she enjoyed painting - Adverb of reason.
  • As Aron was having a midnight snack, he heard a loud noise coming from the basement - Adverb of time.
