Guayaquil is the main port city of Ecuador. It is situated in the banks of the river Guayas which flows into the Pacific Ocean. It is alo officially known as Santiago de Guayaquil. It is a city in Ecuador that has the largest population of around 2.69 million people living in the metropolitan area. This city is also the capital of the province Guayas. This city of Guayaquil is thought to have been founded in the year 1538. Before being founded as a city, it definitely existed as a small village. In the year 1829 this city was invaded by the Peruvian army.
