add one to each side so... -7+1=3x-1+1.. the ones cross out so... -6=3x
divide each side by three to isolate x so.... -6/3=3x/3 the threes cross out so.. -2=x
the answer is -2=x

You said that -7 = 3x - 1

Add ' 1 ' to each side: -6 = 3x

Divide each side by 3 : -2 = x
