Why are producers important to an ecosystem?

Producers (plants) are important to our ecosystem because they are the base of life. If it wasn't for producers, you wouldn't be eating your salad while your reading this answer. That chicken you had yesterday wouldn't be there if it wasn't for corn (a producer).
