Congress supported the construction of the Transcontinental Railroad by B. providing loans and land grants. This was the first railroad to carry goods and people from the East to the Pacific Coast. Two companies, Union Pacific laid tracks to the west from Omaha, and the Central Pacific, eastward from California. Both companies were granted ten square miles of land and a large sum of money for each track they finished.

Congress supported construction of the transcontinental railroad by "B. providing loans and land grants" to companies and private business that would be directly affected by construction.
