Which unit is used to express the amount of energy absorbed or released during a chemical reaction?

Joules, kilojoules and megajoules are used to express the amount of energy absorbed or released during a chemical reaction. Think of it this way:
In foods, on the label at the back, there is the amount of kilojoules per xxx grams...
And food is classified as chemical energy, right?
Same concept for other types of energy.
