How do scientists study prehistory without the aid of written records from that time?

There are other kinds of evidence, even if they are not as reliable and detailed. For example:

- archaeological finds of buildings, structures, but also burial objects and human remains
-DNA evidence
-also the analysis of what "must have been" (if people originated from Africa and live in America, they "must have" somehow gotten there!
