The human desire to control an area or people is called territoriality. What the term means is a kind of nonverbal communication, that refers to how people use space to communicate ownership or occupancy of areas and possessions. If we look at personal space as a bubble that has a person in the centre, that area around the person is an area which the person does not wish to be invaded.
