How might american indians have successfully resisted initial white settlements? What factors impeded successful indian resistance?

One way in which the Native Americans might have successfully resisted initial white settlements is by not sharing with the white settlers their secrets for growing food (which they did). The primary factor that impeded successful indian resistance was that they waited to long to resist--meaning that the settlers had already become powerful.
