First change it into fraction form.  It would be 1 1/4.  1/4 is equal to .25.  Therefore, add a one before the decimal point to make it 1.25, which is the answer.

(5)/(4) = (4+1)/(4) = (4)/(4) +(1)/(4) = 1(1)/(4) = \boxed{1.25}
