These dead organisms still give out energy even though they are dead. For instance, a dead tree can be burned to produce heat energy. A dead human or animal can be decomposed by micro organisms to supply energy to the microbes and at the same time release nutrients into the soil. Besides, some animals such as vulture, obtain their own energy from dead organisms.
