What were the central ideas of the reformers, and why were they appealing to different social groups?

Assuming you're referring to the Protestant reformers in Europe during the 1500, their main idea was that the Church had become corrupt, and that each person could have a personal relationship with God without giving into Church demands, which was wildly appealing to many people because they wouldn't have to spend money to please God.
