The railroads benefited western cattle ranchers because they helped the cowboys not ride for weeks straight up from the south to the north. This also put an end the open range system.

The main way in which the new railroads benefited western cattle ranchers is that they allowed them to move cattle at a much faster and more efficient rate--instead of relying on the cattle drive.
