Not only did railroads lead to increased capacity to transport raw materials, but they also led to increased productivity as they reduced transport costs and allowed new markets to be explored.

The railroads connected the whole country, can be considered a landmark for the capitalist system of the country. Industrial production reached large-scale levels and products could be offered throughout the country and even abroad, as railroads carried cargoes to ports as well.

Railroads not only led to an increase in the ability to transport raw materials, but they also led to an increase in the ability to transport people, meaning that cities around the US started to take shape and function.
