The excerpt that you have written is titled "The Lake of the Dismal Swamp." The poem was written by Thomas Moore. I do believe the question you need answered is "Which poetic device is illustrated by the line, ". . . all night long, by a fire-fly lamp"? The poetic device is called an alliteration. This poem is known as a ballad. It was written in the 1800's. It was written in Norfolk, Virgina.
