Religious life in the colonies was marked by a) tightly organized and disciplined congregations. The colonies basically started in the first place because there was religious persecution in England, so one thing the settlers really wanted to put in place in the Americas were churches. The settlers had quite radical views and strict Christian views, so this was reflected in their congregations as well.
