Today, society sees slavery as a moral issue. During the antebellum era, how did the South mainly view slavery?

they were veiwed as an economic issue

Back then, slaves were seen as animals that produced money or did chores. Although not many farmers had them, that was all of their goals- to one day be rich enough to buy a whole bunch of slaves.
