It is true that Brazil was ruled by a military dictatorship from 1964 until 1989. The military dictatorship lasted for 25 years under six different presidential administrations. The history of Brazil can actually be divided into five stages. First, being characterized by the constitution of the military dictatorship as political regime from 1964-1968. Second is the regime consolidation from 1969 – 1974. The third stage is the Geisel administration also called as regime transformation from 1974-1979 followed by the fourth stage of dissolution from 1979-1985. The last stage, is the transition to a liberal-democratic regime from 1985-1989.
