When solving a word problem, what step should you always do after reading the problem, but prior to writing the equation?

There are many things.  First, you want to read the question over at least 3 times to see if you had missed anything.  Then, if it is a multiple choice test, look at the answers and cross out the ones that you're sure of isn't the correct answer.  Then, chart out the numbers before righting the equation and solve.
