The Answer is C=European countries such as Spain and Portugal brought slaves to their colonies in Latin America to work on plantations.

The main reason why the Transatlantic Slave Trade flourished in between the 18th and mid-19th centuries was because the sugar trade was flourishing, since sugarcane was in such high demand and the slaves were employed in the can fields. The slaves endured horrific conditions and many died en route to the plantations.
