The Jewish faith does predict a Messiah - so Jesus was potentially viewed as a Messiah, or, if some people were not convinced, they would believe him as a preacher, similar to John the Baptist.

I believe the answer is: As messiah

Jewish people beleived that a man would trascend to earth and become the saviour and liberator of the Jewish people. They believed that this messiah would be some sort of King or priests. Which is why they cannot accept Jesus as the messiah sicne He is the son of a carpenter.
