A number of Sioux Indians became involved with the American Indian Movement; however, the most famous was Russell Means, an Oglala Lakota. Means was one of the leaders of Wounded Knee II, where AIM members entered an armed standoff against federal agents at the site of the 1890 Wounded Knee Massacre in South Dakota near the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.
