A Foehn wind is a warm, dry wind that blows down the side of a mountain

This type of wind periodically descends the leeward slopes of nearly all mountains and mountain ranges, such as the Alps in Europe, Rockies in the United States, Tianshan and Qinling in China. It's known for its rapid temperature rise that brings warmer and drier weather and which can cause droughts, (that may exacerbate forest fires) and may also rapidly melt snow (causing avalanche and floods).
