Discuss Fourteenth Amendment (1865) as it relates to citizenship

The Fourteenth Amendment contains the Citizenship Clause, which says that "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside"

At the time it was relevant, because there was a discussion whether black people should be citizens, and this settled the issue forever.
