Jacob and Zachary go to the movie theater and purchase refreshments for their friends. Jacob

spends a total of $18.25 on two bags of popcorn and three drinks. Zachary spends a total of $27.50
for four bags of popcorn and two drinks.
Write a system of equations that can be used to find the price of one bag of popcorn and the price
of one drink.
Using these equations, determine and state the price of a bag of popcorn and the price of a drink,
to the nearest cent.

ok lets say
popcorn = x and
drinks = y

Jacob: 2x + 3y = 18.25
Zachary: 4x + 2y = 27.50

ok now you have to use these 2 equations to get the answer

4x + 2y = 27.50 ---> 2y = 27.50 - 4x ---> y = 13.75 - 2x

2x + 3y = 18.25
2x + 3(13.75-2x) = 18.25
2x + 41.25 - 6x = 18.25
-4x + 41.25 = 18.25
-4x = -23
x = 5.75 One bag of popcorn is $5.75

4x + 2y = 27.50
4(5.75) + 2y = 27.50
23 + 2y = 27.50
2y = 4.50
y = 2.25 One drink is $2.25
