The term that refers to the popular view during the 1930s that America should not get involved in Europe's troubles is isolationism. Isolationism is the belief that the affairs that matter most are those at home and instead of dealing and intervening in foreign affairs the government should focus more so on providing a good and safe life for its own citizens. However, World War II introduced the concept that the growing interconnectedness of world affairs meant that in order to ensure peace at home, the US must intervene in affairs abroad.
