The Monroe Doctrine was a policy that viewed that any intervention by European powers in North America and/or South America would be seen as an act of aggression and that it would require United States intervention would this situation happen. At the same time, the United States would not interfere with European affairs nor it's colonies. Its primary objective was to liberate former colonies from their European powers even more so.
