How do Mockingjays symbolize freedom?

I am doing an essay on the hunger games series, and I have to write a paragraph on how mockingjays symbolize freedom, does anybody have any idea how? Thank you, any help is appreciated.

In the hunger games, the mocking jay symbolized freedom because Katniss Everdeen wore the pin in the first book. She was the mocking jay. Since she gave hope to the people, helping them become free, they made that their symbol of freedom.
