How do I figure out these questions?

Could you please teach me and give me examples? Examples with the answer and why it is would also be appreciated!

1) How tall are Sally and Anna if Sally is 0.1 m taller than Anna and their combined height is 3.16 metres?
Sally _ Anna _

2) Find these simple quantities
a. 1/5 of $50
b. 10% of $40

1) you should let x be Anna's height and (x+0.1) will be sally's height
.
x + x + 0.1 =3.16
2x=3.16-0.1
2x=3.06
x=3.06/2
X=1.53
So anna's height is 1.53m and sally's is 1.53+0.1=1.63m.

1) Sally is 1.63 m tall and Anna is 1.53 m tall
2) 1/5 of $50 is $10 (just divide 50 by 5)
10% of $40 is $4 (multiply 40 by 0.1)
