The Oregon Trail was laid by fur-trappers and traders, but was later used by families migrating, as well as businessmen, farmers, miners, settlers and ranchers in search for a better life. The Santa Fe Trail, which is now marked as a historic landmark, was used more for economic purposes and was more of a commercial highway. This would make their main difference as one being an economic highway and the other a migrant trail.
