Why did people march from Selma to Montgomery? What was the result of the march?

People marched from Selma to Montgomery to demonstrate that the right to vote was very important for the whole Black community. The result of this march (and other activities) was the passing of Voting Rights Act of 1965, which prohibited racial discrimination in voting.
