Great Britain’s success in the Battle of Britain and the Soviet defense of Russia proved that Hitler’s army could be "defeated". This was not a given before these major losses, as many though Hitler had been given too much time to rearm.

The correct answer is be defeated.

Hitler's attack took a world by storm. He defeated one of the biggest countries at time France quickly, and many countries have fallen to his blitzkrieg tactics. But the Battle of Britain and the Defense of Stalingrad showed that he was not invincible. These battles were instrumental at turning the tide and the final nail in the coffin was the US entering the war and the D Day.
