Write as an equation.

3n+4=-8

Whenever you have two things that are equal and you do the same thing to each of them, they will still be the same. We can use this to our advantage here. Just use inverse operations to get
x on its own.

Subtract 4 from each side.

3n+4-4=-8-4 \\ 3n=-12

Divide each side by 3.

\frac{3n}3=\frac{-12}3 \\\\ \boxed{n=-4}
