The Freedmen's bureau played a huge role in the reconstruction process after the Civil War. One of the biggest things that they did was to offer essential items to families such as food, medical aid, and most importantly housing. They also offered legal aid to people who needed it the most. The Freedmen's Bureau also established numerous schools after the Civil War.
