During the French Revolution of 1848, this period of time touched on the Enlightenment Age where people such as Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Voltaire were prominent and who were two philosophers who wrote many texts about the equality of citizens. This was very close to home for the French citizens who were leading miserable lives due to the expenses the French monarchy (an extremely tiny percent of the population vs. the 97 percent population of the proletariat) who were spending unabashedly, while the majority of French people barely had anything to eat.
