The difference between breathing and respiration is that when you breathe you take in oxygen and expel carbon dioxide while during respiration the body breaks down the oxygen so that your cells can use it for energy.

Breathing is simply taking in of oxygen and expelling out carbon dioxide. It involves nose, larynx, bronchi, broncioles, lungs and alveoli.

Respiration is a deeper process. It involves oxidation of food in the mitochondria and releasing ATP for energy requirements. It involves many organs or perhaps the whole body
