“The United States entered World War I not ‘to make the world safe for democracy’ as President Wilson proclaimed, but to safeguard American economic interests.” Assess the validity of this statement.

This is a bit of an oversimplification. The United States entered WWI partly for moral reasons, but also because it was becoming clear that Europe was going to become absolutely devastated, which meant that the Americans would lose valuable trading partners.
