An animal dies and falls into a river. Over time sand, rock and other material settle on top of the animals remain completely covering it. A sedimentary rock might form to preserve the fossils.  Sedimentary rocks comprise of the stabilization and compression of sediments.

If an animal dies and falls into a river, and over time sand, rock, and other material settle on top of the animal remains, sedimentary rock will be most likely to form because of the layering.
