The sum of any two rational numbers is rational. Both of these numbers are rational, therefore adding them will give us another rational number.

Explanation:

Since we have given that

-2(3)/(4)\ and\ (5)/(9)

and we need to change the mixed fraction into improper :

-2(3)/(4)=(-11)/(4)

Now, we need to find the sum of both fractions:

(-11)/(4)+(5)/(9)\\\\=(-99+20)/(36)\\\\=(-79)/(36)

since it is written in
(p)/(q) form . So, it is a rational number.

As we know that "Rational number is any real number which can be written in the form of
(p)/(q)".
