A habitat is where an organism lives and a  niche is the role the organism plays in that habitat. A termite in a forest could live in say a dead tree or in a hollow log and eat the log or tree thus resulting in breaking down the wood and promoting its rot thus providing more nutrients to the forest flora. The termites have protozoa and bacteria which break down the cellulose of the wood.
