20% is the same as the decimal .20 20% literally means 20/100. In order to solve the problem you must take 50 students times the decimal .20 which gives you 10 for the answer

50 students on the fist day and you multiply that by .20 to find how much is 20 percent of 50. You take that number which is 10 and subtract it from 50 so 50-10=40 which is how many showed up the second day

50-10=40 students
