Whigs are basically Republic. Originally the group was made to ensure jeffersonians democracy and fight President Andrew Jackson . Andrew Jackson was also a democrat tho. For a while the whigs had many presidential wins but after slavery consumed half the country the whigs departed into two different groups. One part hating slavery and the other part supporting it.
