The answer is the option C) fertilization. Fertilization is the process of joining the sperm from the father and the egg from the mother to form a new cell with the whole set of chromosomes (from the father and from the mother). Both cells, sperm and egg, are called gametes. The resulting cell of this joint is called zygote. Zygote has the chromosones from both gametes.
