Let the first number be x. The next number will be x+1 since the two numbers are consecutive.
So, the equation is x + x+1 = 71
2x+1 = 71
2x = 70
x = 35
So, the first number is 35.
To find the next number, add 1 to 35.
So, the answers are 35 and 36.
