Cl is the symbol of chlorine, having atomic number 35. It is a member of halogen family. It has tendency to gain electron and becomes ion. The ion of chlorine is called chloride ion, represented by Cl⁻ . The negatively charged ions are anions. It is therefore, chloride ion is an anion.
